Preparing Your MINI Cooper For Summer Driving

You have a MINI Cooper so you know how much fun driving your little engineering marvel is! Likely at some point this summer road trip fever will grip you! Few things are as purely enjoyable as zipping around in your MINI Cooper! Get Your MINI Cooper Ready For The Summer! So here are a few tips to make sure your MINI Cooper is ready for the increased activity during the hot summer months:

Beautiful Inside & Out

Giving the inside of your MINI Cooper a thorough cleaning isn’t just for looks. More than likely the carpet and flooring in your MINI Cooper has been subjected to a lot of water and salt throughout the winter and spring months. Rust could be forming in places you can’t even see, such as below your MINI Cooper’s carpet. Shampoo the carpet with a high quality machine will help you to remove any salt and/or grime that may have built up in your MINI Cooper’s carpet fibers.

MINI Cooper Engine Service

Having the engine serviced on your MINI Cooper before any long road trip is always advisable. But prior to summer driving some basic maintenance can help keep your MINI Cooper running efficiently. Switch out your MINI Cooper’s engine oil & filter if it is needed (you should do this around every 3 months) and get a thorough tune-up from a qualified MINI Cooper maintenance shop (check your MINI Cooper owner’s manual to see the frequency at which you should get a tune up). Inspect the cooling system hoses for leaks, switch out engine coolant fluid if needed, and check drive belts for cracks or splits. Have a professional test your antifreeze. This prevents your coolant from boiling in the summer.

Check Your Tires

Check the pressure of your MINI Cooper’s tires. Changes in temperature such as the change from winter to spring to summer can affect it. Having good pressure in your tires will give you the best gas mileage and save your tires from any wear & tear! Also check that your tires are in good condition. Over the last year, did they sustain any damage? Do you see anything visibly wrong with the tires such as any cuts or places of over-inflation (bulges) in the side walls? If so, visit your professional MINI Cooper maintenance shop and have them checked.
